Cover Snob

As an author, I want my story to be GREAT, FANTASTIC and strike a relationship with the reader so the reader will come back for more.

But the obstacle is how to reach that reader!

When I first started out there was something that I knew I had to had in order to reach you. . .the reader. . .A GREAT COVER!!

I was a new author and who really wanted to take a chance on me? But I had a great cover with a pink dog on it.

Cute right?? It still happens to be one of my favorite covers! I had gotten so many compliments on the cover, so I knew I was on to something.

After that, I spent just as much time on my covers with my cover artist as I had writing the novels.

The cover on the left is my
self published cover of
A GHOSTLY UNDERTAKING before I sold it to HarperCollins.
The one on the right is from my publisher, HarperCollins.

I LOVE both of them and thrilled I have cover control/advice with my traditional covers. The latest novel in the Magical Cures Mystery Series, A CHARMING FATALITY, is A-DORABLE!

A CHARMING FATALITY will be released on July 10th! You can preorder your copy on all platforms today.

  3. I am definitely a cover snob. There are so many books out there that it has gotten to where if I don't know the author and I don't like the cover, I will probably pass you by. Something has to catch my eye.

I can't copy and paste photo from my iPhone so I can't share it. However, if I find it on Facebook somewhere I will promote it like crazy!!!

  5. Shared on FB. I am a book/cover snob. I prefer books that are light and easy to read. I like and need humor in my life. I tend to pay more attention to books with illustrated fun covers. If I do not know the author, and it is a real human, I will move on.

  10. I love cool covers. I'll buy a paperback if I love the cover even if I buy the e-book version...If I'm a cover snob so be it..I buy books for the cover I'll admit it...

  11. You are right about reaching readers through the book cover. That's exactly how one of my granddaughters picks the books she wants to read (she never reads the book summary). Your covers are great. I especially love the pink dog and the A Ghostly covers. :) I've shared this on Facebook.

  12. The cover definitely plays a role when I'm looking at books. Though, It's not the final determine factor in whether I purchase the book. I shared on FB and Twitter.

  13. Yup, it's hard not to be intrigued by the cover first. Content is important too, but you have to get my attention first. Shared on Facebook📚😊

  16. No, I can't say I am a snob. I've seen beautiful covers, read the blurb and wondered, why? The two didn't go together and felt the author was focused on using a picture to hook in the reader. So, I usually base purchase on the combination of blurb, cover if it relates and the reviews. Reviews if they say more than, "I like this book," etc.

  17. Oh my gosh, you know it. Color. Color. Color. I am so drawn to color and the wow factor! On your covers, it is those magical little stars that really set off everything else. The characters are great. It is not like some covers, where you think the illustrator never read the book. Your covers bring a smile as you open and close for the day. I have grabbed a book and ventured in due to the cover. I have also gone on word of mouth though...If you wrote a novel and published it in a brown paper bag, I'd go for it!!!!!
